Hero: Chapter 1, Part 1

Many years later, Johnny sat on a bench in Central Park, reading his favorite book for the hundredth time as his day came to an end. He barely noticed the people walking past him as they made their way out of the park and into the surrounding city. He enjoyed the warm sunlight, the warm glow of the clouds, and the soft sound of a guitar being played in the background. Johnny suddenly remembered that day he had asked his father why he wanted to arrest Hero. Once Mr. Kingston revealed why he wanted to arrest Hero, Johnny became disgusted with him. Johnny had changed his last name to Aiden and had not spoken to Mr. Kingston in years. Johnny did not want to be affiliated with the man, yet he was surrounded by reminders of him every day. The reward money for capturing Hero grew this morning, and everyone was talking about the Kingston jackpot. Johnny knew that Hero was not a villain, so this angered him. However, his anger softened while hearing the guitar being played by a beggar sitting

Fall To Pieces Again

Up on that shelf, where I've always been, that's where I long to remain. In the silence; amongst the others that you have left behind, that was the place I was made to belong. Covered in dust; face forever stained with tears, I am ruined, but that was what I was built for. Alone inside my mind, eternally abandoned, this is what I was promised. Please don't lie to me; please don't break our pact. I don't want to crumble; to drop to your feet. I don't want to fall to pieces. I don't ever want to break again.

-Desperately Dear to Me-(2020)

Out of ink, I carved into the page Illegible letters, sunken into the paper I can’t understand the braille turned inside out Screaming desperately to be read I dreamed, kaleidoscopic A stained-glass masterpiece The dust that drifted through the sunbeams Had settled on the pane Irresistible to my finger-tips I wrote something dear to me

[WoS Track 12] Dreamcrafter (Prologue)

[Song Inspiration: I Want It That Way - Backstreet Boys] Riley moaned as the dark elf prince shoved them roughly against the wooden planks of their room at The Zoog’s Folly inn, their lips pressed firmly together. It had been months since the two had formed a party and started adventuring together – and weeks since they became even more on the shore of the River Skai near the edge of the Forest of Parg – and they had just finished their biggest job yet. Well, mostly finished it anyway, but they wouldn’t be making the drop to their contact until the next morning; which meant the pair had all evening to “celebrate”. Nalkéth trailed his ebony fingers from Riley’s messy bob of black hair down along their jaw, along their throat, the beaten leather armor that clung to their chest, their bare midriff, finally coming to rest on their waist, just above the set of belts holding his partner's weapons and gear; and pushed his own hips insistently into theirs. “We did it,” the dark elf said

Silver and Gold: Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Retaking Buckingham Palace I knew what I had to do, because I already knew what was going to happen. With a goal in mind for both myself and my friends before me, it was a race against the clock. However, despite the goal, the enemy had one advantage against us...he had the power over time and space. But, the problem was he didn't know how it works and I prayed to God that we weren’t too late in him figuring out how it works… Little did I realize that when I retrieved something that was stolen from me, I too would learn a little bit about its secrets and the power of time and space that literally laid in the palm of my hand. --- June 20, 1897 9:50 p.m. At the royal chamber, Ratigan was just finishing up on preparing his coronation. He was now dressed in his overly rich royal garments consisting of many golden medals sewn over his robe with a mantle over his back, a huge golden belt with the letter R engraved at the center was wrapped around his waist and on the left

Ulterior Motives in Stories

Subjectivity relates to what we prefer. Objectivity relates to how something is despite how we feel about it. Some stories are objectively better quality than others. If we enjoy or get something out of a bad story it's because there was something good in us, not the story. A story that fails to live up to the standards it set for itself or has a foundation built on the sand is failing in quality. We can debate whether or not it fails in this way. Refusing to acknowledge that there can be real levels of quality in storytelling because everything is "subjective" is the thing that's close-minded. The best stories are the most particular. The

A game of POVs

What's a narrator's point of view? A story isn't just a series of words; a story needs a storyteller - a.k.a. the narrator! In writing, there are two possible candidates for this job: 'Limited': the narrator is stuck in one character's head. Who that POV character is might change in the story, but you can't be in more than one head at once. The reader can only read about what this character knows. This type is very suitable to let the reader connect with the POV character, because the reader gets to know the character so well. 'Omniscient': the narrator knows everything all at once, which includes the knowledge and feelings of all characters
